New Investment Fund SMERemediumCap II
Posted: December 10, 2025
SMERemediumCap is pleased to announce the successful completion of the fundraising for its successor investment fund, SMERemediumCap II, raising a total of €200 million. As a result, the firm’s total assets under management now exceed €340 million.
Given the strong investor interest in SMERemediumCap II, which exceeded the initial target, the full amount was secured in the first closing. Consequently, no additional capital increase is expected in the future.
This new investment initiative was supported by the Hellenic Development Bank of Investments, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, domestic banks, as well as 30 Greek institutional investors, insurance companies, pension funds and a significant number of family offices.
Despite recent improvements, Greece continues to face a significant investment gap, which constrains productivity growth and delays technological upgrading.
Today, there are approximately 2,700 companies with annual revenues between €10 million and €100 million that form the backbone of the Greek economy. The majority lag behind in terms of productivity, digital transformation, international expansion, adequacy of infrastructure, modern organisational and governance structures, the application of ESG principles and the reliability of financial reporting.
Our strategic objective is to contribute capital, expertise, growth and modernisation strategies, as well as market access, in order to support the faster and more effective corporate transformation required by today’s evolving market conditions.
The Investment Philosophy of SMERemediumCap II
The investment philosophy of SMERemediumCap II is defined by five core investment commitments:
To accelerate mergers and acquisitions among small and medium-sized enterprises, creating stronger corporate groups with an export-oriented focus and the ability to absorb and finance significant investments.
To support Greek SMEs with equity capital, particularly those with a strong growth narrative and business potential that has not yet been fully realised.
To strengthen companies with mature investment plans that lack access to capital and liquidity, or that are overleveraged.
To support family-owned businesses facing succession challenges that are ready to accept institutional participation in both their shareholding structure and operations.
To provide the necessary capital to companies with strong export potential and/or a need for technological upgrading and a gradual transition to the green economy.
SMERemediumCap is not a passive investor. The firm seeks to acquire a significant equity stake and maintains an active role in shaping each company’s strategy, in close cooperation with the other shareholders, particularly with regard to the development of the business plan, medium-term strategic priorities and the investment plan of each target company in which it invests.
